Through direct contact with the horses, attendees will be reminded of the importance of being in the moment, appreciating and advocating for boundaries, and experiencing joy like we did so abundantly during childhood.
Attendees must be over 18 years old and may have experienced burn out, anxiety, depression, trauma, or loss.

Integrating to civilian life while/after serving in the military can feel unnecessarily hard. Our Military support programs offer opportunities for connection, comraderie, and purpose in a small group setting. The group provides essential care to our herd of horses while focusing on valuable self-care needs such as staying in the moment, developing and trusting intuition, and openness.
Attendees can be Active Duty or previous Military service members. As a small token of our appreciation, all Military programs are at no cost, always.
Horses are prey animals and humans are predators. To say it is a gift that horses choose to partner with us is a sincere understatement... it makes little evolutionary sense for them to want to be around us considering how how harshly we have domesticated them. Because of their large stature and physiological differences to humans, horses have a lot to teach us if we are willing to pay attention. They live in the moment and respond honestly- only doing what they need to in order to feel safe. There are no ulterior motives, no thought to your background or looks, and no judgement of what you've experienced. If we are congruent in our emotions, curious, and present they are generally happy to be around us. This feels refreshing in a world with humans who use, judge, and fake interest to get by. Because of this, people are willing to do things for horses that they aren't willing or motivated to do for themselves.
All of our programming uses a free choice, mutually beneficial model where horses can elect (or not) to engage in programming that benefits them as much as it does us. Using voluntary presence feels safe to those who've experienced boundary violations, and it ensures that our horses voices are heard and respected.
If you're wondering whether our programs might be a good fit for you, please reach out to us at hello@factumequine.org to schedule a phone conversation and complete the intake process. We do require liability waivers and intake screenings prior to visiting the farm and participating in programming.
The services we offer are therapeutic, but they are not therapy. This means that the primary focus is the present and the future, not the past. We focus on personal development skills such as trusting intuition, being mindful, challenging negative thought patterns, and expressing curiosity and creativity that might align with your therapy journey and therefore are happy to interface with your mental health professionals if you feel it would be valuable.
Clients are generally experiencing burn out, grief, anxiety, depression... they might care give for a loved one, be a foster parent, work in the human service sector, have experienced a traumatic incident, or they might have general feelings of not "fitting in" or not being "good enough".
