We could not do our special work without our horses' willingness to partner with us. Their unique histories and experiences are reflected in their personalities which we appreciate wholly. Read below to learn more about them and, if you feel compelled to support their care, donate to our Equine Care Fund-which covers essential health care needs and extraordinary emergency expenses.
Buckaroo is a Morgan gelding who came to the farm with his "brother" Warren in 2023. Buck is the silliest goose, regularly playing with his neighbors over the fence and consistently giving everyone a chuckle with his antics. Though he be but little, Buck has a big personality and is a reliable trail mount for his people.
Freya is a teenaged Percheron Mare rescued by the local CT Draft Horse Rescue at auction in Summer 2023. When she arrived to the rescue she was incredibly wary of humans, always hiding behind other members of the herd. She arrived to our farm in January 2024 and has come out of her shell slowly. She is curious and engaged, always watching what is going on around her. We cant wait to see who she becomes over time!
Gids is a 17.2 hand 2001 Percheron X Thoroughbred who is very well known from his long tenure as a lesson horse at UConn. Gideon joined the farm in fall 2020 and has been Jack's neighbor for the entirety of his time with us. Gideon is smart and opinionated, which makes it extra special when he chooses to do things with us. He loves his hay box more than life itself and adorably resembles a wooly mammoth in the winter months.
Jack is a 16.2 hand 2013 Off the track Thoroughbred, and might look familiar from the logo (thats him!). He joined the farm in March 2020 as one of the first boarders and was central to the development of our horse-centric care. Jack is intuitive, expressive, and bold. He expects his people to be grounded and emotionally congruent and gives very clear feedback when they are not. Jack knows many tricks (smiling is a favorite) and is revered by humans for his silly antics.
Mariposa is a 16.2 hand 2009 PRE Andalusian mare who moved to the farm in September 2024. Posie has been her humans partner since she was only three years old and it's obvious immediately how special their relationship is- when her human calls for her, Posie comes running! Our favorite thing about Mariposa is her extremely expressive ears- you can always tell what she's paying attention to and if her perspective is shifting.
Mav is a 17 hand 2007 Off the track Thoroughbred who worked as a summer camp horse before exploring the show ring as a hunter. Maverick joined the farm in Spring 2022 and is, as his person says "just a really nice horse to be around". Mav is fun and engaging, often coming across his entire paddock to see visitors and get forehead scratches. He loves his horsey friends, too, regularly playing through the fence and sharing his alfalfa with them.
Stormy is a 2006 Off the track Thoroughbred who joined the farm in January 2024. He is a flashy, handsome gentleman who is happy to enjoy a quiet retirement. Fun fact: Stormy shares the infamous Storm Cat lineage with Jack (he was both of their grand-sires). Storm Cat progeny are known to be athletic, quick thinking, and quirky, which seems pretty spot on to us!
Warren comes from the famous, local Whippoorwill Morgan breeding stock! He and his "brother" Buck came to the farm in 2023 and have been bringing us joy and laughter daily. Warren exemplifies traditional Morgan horse characteristics- reliable, fun, and self-assured. He loves to play over the fence with his neighbors and reminds us regularly that life is intended to be LIVED.
Elowen, affectionately known as "Winnie" is an early 20's Percheron x Thoroughbred who joined the herd in March 2024. Other than awareness that Winnie was a Premarin mare in her early life, we dont know much about her history before 2020. She had a foal in the last couple of years and has been a wonderful, brave riding partner for her human. Winnie has a silly meal routine and warns her neighbors with a squeal when they get too close!
If you enjoyed a herd member at the farm but you dont see them here, please know that not all of our horses are comfortable being showcased online.
